Olivia is the newest member of our team. Before officially joining our office, she completed an internship with us as part of her medical assistant program. Here she shares what she learned about eyes and eyecare - things everyone should know!
When I started my internship here at Small Wonder Eyecare I had no idea of all the things I would learn and do. Did you know an eye exam can reveal a lot about your overall health ? It can detect conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma and of course various eye and vision problems.
All the equipment, tools and treatments that aid in detecting these conditions and improving your vision are amazing. For example Retinal Photos can be done instead of dilation and become a permanent part of your record . Vision Therapy is non-invasive and can help treat lazy eye, crossed eyes, binocular vision problems, eye movement disorders, visual issues related to stroke and concussion, and help with reading difficulties such as skipping lines or losing your place . There are even drops that help people see better so they don't have to use their readers for several hours.
I have also learned some interesting facts about vision for instance:
* A large percentage of the brain 's processing is dedicated to our vision.
* Children with vision problems are often misdiagnosed with learning disabilities such as dyslexia and ADHD .
* You could have a serious eye condition and not know until permanent eye damage is done. This is because we don't have any pain receptors inside the eye.
